Demonstrations of Miracles

As a teacher of college students, community college students, and high school students, I have always approached the classroom with 2 basic principles that I articulate to my students. 1. It is my firm conviction that the classroom must operate as a platform for both scholarship and activism, and so it is my intention to turn my students into activists. 2. In order to be effective activists, my students need knowledge of the world around them and a specific set of skills, including writing, debating, and organizing.

Up until this semester, I have focused on the writing in the classroom and the debating inside and outside of the classroom. I have held the occasional salon to hone our conversational and debating skills. Now, I am focusing on the organizing aspect.

To this end, I will be writing about and posting video concerning my organizing efforts, both in the college setting and through non-profit, civic organizations. I suspect many of my students are engaged in similar efforts. Thus, I encourage them to write about their activities, advertise events, and post video of their activities here.
